Kalgoorlie Q1 Update 2026
The Kalgoorlie team recorded a significant milestone this quarter with two Court Advocates sworn in, strengthening local service capacity and improving access to support for clients in the Goldfields region. Court Advocates Lisa and Michelle successfully represented clients in court, including matters relating to Family Violence Restraining Orders (FVROs). Clients received clear guidance and culturally safe support throughout the court process, contributing to positive outcomes and improved understanding of next steps. Community awareness of AFLS services in Kalgoorlie also increased, with stakeholders and community members expressing greater confidence knowing two Court Advocates are locally based. Outreach activities, hotspotting, and engagement with courts and stakeholders further strengthened relationships and visibility across the region.
The Goldfields region continues to experience high levels of crisis demand, driven by increased homelessness, alcohol and other drug use, and family and domestic violence incidents. These challenges place pressure on frontline services and increase safety risks for both clients and staff.
To respond to these challenges, safety measures have been strengthened, with two staff present at all times when attending identified high‑risk locations. The team also supported the onboarding of a new Community Engagement Worker (CEW), including their first involvement in Ochre Ribbon 2026 activities, while adapting to new systems and building stakeholder relationships. Promotion of Ochre Ribbon initiatives will be supported by Head Office, including broader visibility through social media once events are approved.
Next quarter will focus on delivering more key community events and activities across the region, strengthening partnerships with local stakeholders, and continuing monthly outreach trips to North and South Goldfields. The team is also working towards delivering Legal Education and Healthy Relationships programs in schools, supporting early intervention and community awareness.
