Carnarvon Q1 Update 2026

Carnarvon Q1 Update 2026

The Carnarvon team delivered a successful Ochre Ribbon Event at the Cultural Centre, raising awareness of elder abuse, coercive control, and family and domestic violence. The event created a culturally safe and welcoming space, encouraging open community conversations.

Guest speaker Kerri Dorey, Aboriginal Liaison Officer at the Carnarvon Courthouse, shared domestic violence statistics and her lived experience, supported by AFLS Lawyer Jeremy Meagher. Merchandise, information resources, signage, and teardrop flags helped boost visibility, with community members expressing strong appreciation for local access to legal support and interest in future events.

Engagement in Onslow has remained low, with minimal client uptake despite outreach efforts. Rising accommodation and fuel costs continue to impact outreach planning and service delivery across the region.

To manage costs more effectively, the team plans to book accommodation for outreach well in advance to secure discounted rates and improve travel efficiency.

The office continues to host a weekly Healing Circle, offering creative activities, onsite counsellor support, and guest speakers from local services. The CEW attends Justice Reinvestment meetings, with growing interest in prison visits. Carnarvon also contributed regional elements to the 6 Seasons Touch Box.

Next quarter includes outreach to Gascoyne Junction to deliver the Healthy Relationships Program at the local school and a return visit to Burringurrah in April to support new and existing clients. A sound healing session with Davinia Wainwright further supported community wellbeing following important discussions.
