Broome & Derby Q1 Update 2026

Broome & Derby Q1 Update 2026

The Broome and Derby team celebrated key professional milestones this quarter, with Dona appointed as a Court Advocate and Adelle achieving a significant milestone as an unrestricted solicitor. These achievements reflect the team’s growing expertise and commitment to high‑quality legal services.

The team also delivered their first CEW outreach event in the Bidgy community, creating meaningful engagement and strengthening relationships with local community members. Despite challenging conditions, staff remained active across Broome and Derby, hosting information stalls, sharing resources, and working alongside partner organisations.

Broome and Derby were proud to support the Ochre Ribbon campaign in collaboration with the Kimberley Stolen Gen and Descendants Aboriginal Corporation (KSGAC), standing together to raise awareness and support community‑led advocacy.

The wet season brought ongoing storms, cyclones, and heavy rainfall, which significantly disrupted travel to remote communities, including the Dampier Peninsula, Looma, and Bidgy. Unpredictable weather and road closures limited access and caused delays to planned outreach activities.

To support staff and community safety, all outreach travel now includes close monitoring of Bureau of Meteorology forecasts. The team has also adopted a more flexible outreach schedule, allowing visits to be adjusted quickly in response to changing weather and road conditions.

The Broome Ochre Ribbon event has been rescheduled to April, providing cooler conditions and a safer, more comfortable environment for community members to attend. Increasing visits to Bidgy and the Dampier Peninsula remains a priority next quarter, ensuring continued support and stronger regional engagement.
