Family Advocate / Social Worker
The Aboriginal Family Legal Services (WA) (AFLS)aims to provide free, culturally secure legal support services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims and survivors of family violence and/or sexual assault.

FAMILY ADVOCATE/SOCIAL WORKER

We are seeking an experienced Family Advocate who is interested in being part of the AFLS team. As an AFLS Family Advocate, you will work closely with our Solicitors to deliver comprehensive case management and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provision of high quality, client-centred and culturally appropriate case management to survivors of family violence and sexual assault.

Use culturally appropriate, family-centred approaches to deliver support that enhances the social and emotional wellbeing of clients.

Prepare client risk management and safety plans.

Working collaboratively with solicitors and community engagement workers to provide holistic and wraparound services to clients.

Provide assisted referrals to internal and external support services.

Provide support and advocacy for clients with external agency meetings.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

Minimum certificate 4 in community services or similar.

Experience working and communicating with Aboriginal people and communities effectively and sensitively.

Experience and knowledge of Aboriginal culture (e.g. kinship system, child-rearing, intergenerational trauma and more) and the underlying factors.

Experience and understanding of culturally appropriate and trauma-informed practice in the area of family violence and/or sexual assault.

Demonstrated case management experience of one-on-one support to clients with the ability to work independently or within a team exercising strong motivation and judgement skills.

Strong interpersonal and advocacy skills.

Strong computer skills.

Current ‘C’ Class WA Driver’s License.

Current Police Clearance Certificate.

Current Working with Children Check.
DESIRABLE

Experience with Department of Child Protection.

Ability to work within a legal service.
